Boxing And Jogging: How They Go Together

Are you aspiring to be a good boxer? Well then, you need to have a strong cardiovascular ability as well as strong legs that will not weaken as the fight drags on. This means that you need to do a lot of workout in the gym to build your muscles, improve your strength as well as increasing your speed. But did you know that besides hitting the gym, jogging is also an essential part of training especially if you want to improve your overall fitness and lung capacity? I thought you should know.boxing training twice a day

Most people think that jogging is a form of exercise that is meant for footballers and athletes, but the truth is jogging is as important to any boxer as it is to other athletes or fitness enthusiasts. Jogging in the morning late in the evening will help improve your overall fitness and increase your lung capacity, hence you will be able to last long in a fight. Jogging also helps build the leg muscles and in return help to increase your stamina which is very important in a boxing fight.

One technique that is used by most boxers is to wear wrist and ankle weights when jogging. As they run, the weights help in toning the leg and hand muscles to improve their strength and stamina. When the weights are taken off the body, most people find themselves to be very light and they can move their legs and arms very fast. It is also important that as you jog, you move directly from running to shadowboxing during each step you make. This helps improve your fighting techniques and as well as increasing your endurance.

cardio boxing benefitsPerhaps you must have seen a few boxers jog down the street while making stops to start shadowboxing before resuming the jogging. They might look as though they are throwing some punches to a ghost but the truth is they are making imitation of a real fight in a boxing ring.

It may look fairy silly to you, but a good boxer understands that in the long end, it will sharpen his or her kills and keep him or her up for the next challenge in the next fight.

However, it is important not to substitute jogging for workouts in the gym. You will still need to lift weights, do push-ups and sit-ups if you want to take your boxing career to the next level. A combination of both boxing and jogging is a great way to enhance your boxing performance, so, next time you see a boxer running while throwing flying fists, don’t think they have gone mad. It’s a way of sharpening their boxing skills.…

Tips on Choosing the Right Boxing Equipment For You

Are you a boxing professional or do you want to start your boxing career? If that is the case, the first thing you need know is the various types of boxing equipment needed for both training and competitions. Before I give you the tips on choosing the right boxing equipment, let me first give you a basic knowledge about the available boxing equipment.

Boxing equipment can be divided in different categories and each category has a wide range of products in it. Besides the categories, the boxing equipment can be categorized based on its purpose. Some of the most common boxing equipment include boxing gloves, boxing headgear, mouth piece, punching bags, and attires among others. Below are the tips for choosing each and every equipment to ensure that you pick the right equipment:

  • Boxing Gloves

When choosing boxing gloves, it is important that you first consider the type of gloves you need. You also need to know the size of gloves that fit your palms. Gloves sizes are measured in ounce, commonly denoted by oz. The typical size of gloves are 12 oz, 14 oz, 16 oz, and 18 oz. what oz gloves for sparring

The bigger the ounce the better the paddling. If you are just starting out your boxing practice, you will need the bigger ounce. It is also essential to know that the size of the gloves you are using should be based on the size of the gloves that your opponent is using. For instance, it will do you little good if you are using an 18 oz gloves to fight an opponent using a 12 oz gloves. Always ensure that you a wearing gloves that are of the same size as your opponent.

  • Boxing Headgear

Most boxers do not like to use the boxing headgear because it seems to hinder their ability to move while at the same time interfering with the peripheral vision. In fact, most professional boxers fight without the head-gears. However it is important to have one because it helps prevent head injuries.

When selecting a headgear, be sure to buy a headgear that fits your head perfectly or one that is adjustable. A loose headgear is likely to come off your head with a single punch from your opponent or trainer while a tight fitting headgear may be uncomfortable on your head.

  • Mouthpiece

It’s very possible that you can pick up a single or double mouthpiece at a relatively low price, so, there is no excuse why you should not be having one or two for both your training and boxing competitions. best heavy bag gloves for beginnerMouthpiece are essential equipment that every boxer or any other individual aspiring to be a boxer should have.

Several people have made the mistake of jumping into boxing sessions with the mouthpiece during their early days and ended up chipping or losing a few teeth.

When buying a mouthpiece, choose one that can easily molt to your mouth. Usually, you just need to dump it in some hot water and then put it in your mouth and bite it down then allow it to cool. When it cools down, it will take the shape of your teeth.

Avoid buying cheap mouthpiece as they may not protect your teeth and jaw in the best way possible. Most cheap mouthpiece are made from weak materials that can easily break when a strong punch is directed to you, hence put your jaws and teeth at risk. The more you invest on your mouthpiece, the better the mouthpiece and the more protection it can offer your teeth and jaws.

  • Punch Bags

Punch bags are an essential part of your boxing career. You will need them for training purposes. So, it is essential that you have the best punch bags possible that will enhance your performance in the ring.
When buying a punch bag, there are several things you will need to consider and that will depend on a number of factors, especially on the areas you want to improve such as speed and timing or just building your power.

When buying a punch bag, do not go for the cheap ones. Though the low price may be tempting, it will not provide you with the quality and good feel you need. You might be forced to spend more on a quality bag but be sure to get the best out of it.

Another thing you need to consider is the material used to make the bag. Leather is the most expensive but durable material that will provide you with the good feel besides saving on constant repairs. My recommendation is that you go for the leather punch bag if you can afford it.

Another thing you need to know is whether a punching bag is filled or not. Most bags come filled though some are not filled. If you want to the best punching bag, then you need to fill it yourself. Filling the bag on your own give you the perfect opportunity to fill it with the right materials that with get you the perfect firmness.

Boxing is a great sport but without the right equipment, you may not enjoy the game as expected. It can also be dangerous if you don’t have the right protective gear. So always have the right equipment and learn proper techniques to lower the risks of getting injuries.…

The Olympic Fight Comes With New Rules Looking To Be More Attractive

Dragon King Wrestling & Olympic BattleThe Olympic battle seeks to adapt to the modern times. After battling and beating other sports for prevailing in the Olympic program, this combat sport launched new rules, already approved, to be implemented in the Olympic Games of Rio.

This weekend, the Women’s Fight Open will take place in Rio (January 30-31). Precisely the female branch was pleased with new rules, hoping that they become more attractive. Squash and the unified proposal of baseball and softball were overcome by the Olympic fight in 2014, when the match was expected to be out for the Tokyo Games, 2020.

The official website of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro highlights the new rules for this sport. “To guarantee the permanence of the discipline in the Olympic Program, the International Wrestling Federation (FILA) updated its regulations in search of greater aggressiveness and dynamics during the fights,” highlights the website.

The main change, he explains, was the duration of the fight, which has gone from three rounds of two minutes to two or three minutes with a cumulative score, which means that the fighters have more time to try to defeat their opponent by obtaining the most significant amount of points.

This Sport Brings A New Concept To Rio 2016

Rio 2016Expanding the participation of women in sports was also another critical point in the new era of the discipline. To achieve this, new feminine categories were included -58kg, 53kg, 69kg, and 75kg replaced 55kg and 72kg-, which will appear in the test event.

In freestyle as well as in Greco-Roman, athletes have the same objective: to put the opponent back on the mat, accumulating points according to the movements used. The big difference with wrestling is that you cannot actively use your legs or attack your opponent’s.

The Olympic wrestling championship will take place at Rio Carioca Arena 1, in Rio de Janeiro, where 65 athletes from different countries are expected, including the Russian Olympic champion, Natalia Vorobieva.

We will see. Athletes were competing in all Olympic categories. The competition will also be faster, so it is essential to evaluate the administration of the installation. We will also have 66 volunteers at the test event to ensure that they will be ready during the Games, “said Gilles Toloni, director of the wrestling competition in Rio 2016.

All You Need to Know About Kickboxing Before Getting Started

kickboxing History

Did you know that kickboxing technically originated in Japan?

A Japanese karate master Tatsuo Yamada became really interested in the ancient Thai sport of Muay Thai. He wanted to incorporate its rules with karate to make a full contact version. In the 1960’s, there were big Muay Thai events that took place in Osaka.

Karate athletes wanted to test it out against their own artform so they entered competitions versus Muay Thai athletes to see which form would win. While the karatekas won, it prompted some to learn Muay Thai and eventually came up with a hybrid sport which they dubbed “kickboxing”.

It saw its heyday in the 70’s, and spread to the West in the 80’s. These days, kickboxing has branched out of the combat arena and into the workout and recreation realm.

Benefits

Innovations in aerobic exercises in the 90’s came in the form of incorporating martial arts movements while dancing to music. The kickboxing style taught at gyms today for the purpose of body toning and weightloss stems from those innovations.

If you’re working towards a better physique and overall body conditioning, this sport can definitely help. Its benefits include:

  • kickboxing styleBurning fat
  • Increase flexibility
  • Healthier heart
  • Improved strength and stamina
  • Develop balance
  • Mental strength training

Things to Note

Fight vs. Cardio Kickboxing

The martial art is a combination of two practices that are borne of the need for self-defense and offense. If you want to compete, you’d have to specify that you want to learn the combat form of the practice. The cardio version is optimized for workout purposes and does not really offer anything in the form of defense.

In short, if you’re only doing kickboxing for fitness, it’s better to not get into fights with real martial artists.

Instructor

Either way you choose, you will need someone to guide you through the practice. Gyms or studios offering lessons have instructors for both purposes. They will come in handy especially for mental conditioning – sometimes, our bodies can take the workout but our minds can’t. This is where instructor’s experience will come in for motivation.

Warm ups

This is especially important for people whose only form of exercise is running on the treadmill. Kickboxing activates muscles all over the body with its complex movements. So it’s vital to do basic stretches for at least 10 minutes to prevent injuries.

Dangers

As with all types of physical activity, injuries can be sustained while practicing. The most common parts that are injured are muscles and joints in the knees, back, hips, ankles, and shoulders.

If you’re thinking about going into competitive mode, you should also note that professional kickboxers sustain more facial injuries than that of normal boxers due to the involvement of feet in the striking mix.

Health and Fitness History of Combat Sport

Combat sports are fighting practices brought into the realm of organized competition to serve mainly as entertainment and a source of fame and glory.

Ancient Contests

This dated back to around 2100 B.C. in Mesopotamia where forms of wrestling and grappling were recounted in the earliest literature ever found.

Conflicts were settled with these said practices in the early days. For instance, opposing armies would elect a “champion” that would represent them in a one-on-one combat to settle the score without a high death toll, much like the story of David and Goliath (but with full body contact, not throwing stones).

combat sportsMartial arts, which are essentially what combat sports is made of, is also used to train soldiers for battle. Techniques such as strikes, grapples, kicking, choking, and using weapons like axes and swords are taught.

This is because during these days, battles were largely held on foot, in close range hand-to-hand combat. In order to win, soldiers needed to be strong, have great endurance, and able to dodge and deal deadly blows one after another until their death or defeat of the opposing troop.

But as the ancient Olympic games proved, the masses love a good, violent competition. Later on, wrestling, boxing, and pankration were added to what was basically a big event for running. The flauntation of strength, great physique, and domination earned warriors fame and glory, which were sometimes more important to ancient society than money.

In those days, combat sports athletes were also deemed intelligent. This is because they utilize ingenious techniques and exhibit quick on-the-feet thinking that allow them to overcome opponents. This is more emphasized when there is a size mismatch between competitors, which often happened due to the nonexistence of weight classes.

The bouts partly resembled a Royal Rumble match, but with only two opposing bodies in the “ring” at one time. A winner will have to face succeeding challengers until none were left, or the said winner is defeated. The last man standing would win the “crown”.

Because of this tournament style, athletes can use their physiques to intimidate future challengers. Of course, they would also prove their strength, endurance, and quick wits during their matches in order to survive for long.

While these athletes are highly prized and the epitome of health and fitness, not many of them live long either because of the brutality of their pursuit. Still, for many, it’s either win or die with honor in the ring.

Modern Iteration

With the passing of time came more innovations in the martial arts realm, and the sports were increasingly populated by Asian forms.

What were essentially fighting techniques for battle were transformed into sporting events due to weapons innovation that rendered hand-to-hand fighting in wars ineffective.

While wrestling and boxing survived the change of millenia, pankration was phased out of the competitions. These days, the term “combat sports” bring to mind practices such as taekwondo, jiu jitsu, karate, muay thai, kickboxing, and MMA.

Health and Fitness Regimen

These days, combat sports are increasingly used by non-athletes as a means to get fit and lose weight. Because of their innate purpose as forms of rigorous training, practicing these methods allow the people to reap the benefits of extensive movements as well as the stress relief that comes with hitting something without getting hit back.

The most popular for workouts is arguably boxing largely because of its sensational media coverage and abundance of boxing studios.…

Diet and Lifestyle of Traditional Japanese Sumo Wrestlers.

Sumo wrestlingSumo wrestling has long been practiced in the past, with distinctive traditional ceremonies in Japan. Today, sumo wrestlers still have status in Japan and are recognized in virtually every place they go. Even though Japan is the only country in the world where sumo began and is still practiced, the art is gaining its popularity in other nations such as Bulgaria and Mongolia.

One of the unique features of sumo wrestlers is their body physique. Sumo wrestlers weighed an average of about 148 and to maintain this size as well as staying fit and strong, they had a strict lifestyle and diet.

The Lifestyle of Sumo Wrestlers.

Becoming a sumo wrestler is not an easy walk on the path. All professional sumo wrestlers reside in houses commonly referred as stables. Each stable has a master known as Oyakata and his wife also known as Okamisan plays an essential supportive role behind the scenes. In these stables, they are separated between senior wrestlers and junior wrestlers. The junior wrestlers are responsible for cleaning both inside and outside the stables. Sumo wrestlers follow a strict training program that begins early in the morning at around 5.00 a.m. The highly ranked wrestlers are allowed to sleep for long and join the rest later. They do similar training and help the juniors to develop skills. Each stable has a ring where they practice every day.

At 8: 00 am, the junior wrestlers in the stables are allowed to go and cook for other wrestlers. The prepared food is commonly referred to as chanko and it consists of Chinese food, stew, deep-fried food, and sashimi. Stew is the popular dishes among sumo wrestlers, however, rice with curry and hamburger has also in the past been included in their diet. Sumo wrestlers eat two meals daily. Breakfast is served at around 11:00 am while dinner is served at around 6:00 pm. Sumo wrestlers don’t take lunch.

heavier wrestlersSumo wrestlers end their practice at 10:30 am when the junior wrestlers are through with preparing meals. When serving meals, the high ranked wrestlers are the ones allowed to serve fast followed by the rest. They eat their breakfast after fixing their hair by tying a knot at the top. After breakfast, the wrestlers are allowed to take bath with the seniors going fast. Once they are through with taking bath, the wrestlers are free to do anything they want. However, most of them prefer sleeping to help them grow bigger.

Sumo wrestlers are not divided in different weight class and as such the heavier wrestlers had an upper hand in fights. In order to achieve this massive weight, sumo wrestlers had to consume an average 20,000 calories a day. This is nearly 10 times the standard intake for an adult male.

Diet of the Sumo Wrestlers.

To obtain the massive body weight, sumo wrestlers ate a typical Japanese hot pot meal known as chanko. Chanko consisted of lots of protein such as fish, tofu, pork, meat, and sashimi all mixed and cooked in one giant pot. They also ate lots of vegetables and broth of soy sauce, dashi, sake, mirin and salt. Chicken is the most popular protein for their meal as the animal stands on its two feet just6 like the sumo wrestlers, unlike pork, fish, and beef.

Chanko is mostly prepared by the junior wrestlers and then eaten together in groups. Chanko can be eaten alongside rice served in large bowls. The wrestlers are also allowed to take several pints of beer when eating. Once they are done eating, udon noodles are then served to help them add more carbs and calories. Each stable has its own way of preparing chanko and most retired wrestlers often open their own chanko restaurants.

How chanko is prepared.

Chanko is prepared in a traditional Japanese hot pot made from clay or a thick cast iron pot called testunabe. The pot is filled with a broth of your choice and boiled thoroughly. Vegetables like Japanese leek, onions, carrots, mushrooms, garlic chives, and cabbage are then added to the pot to boil. Once the vegetables are boiled, chicken meatballs, pork, beef, fish or any other type of protein is added in the pot and cooked till the meat is tender. The heat is then lowered and chanko is allowed to cool before it is served.

I hope by reading through this article, you have had an insight of what the lifestyle of sumo wrestlers look likes and what their diet entails. Do you want to be a sumo wrestler? If so, I guess you got to start preparing chanko and grow big!
